Guided by Matt Cecil from Wildlife Queensland, our community got hands-on with motion-sensing fauna cameras, wildlife detection techniques and citizen science — learning how a little technology can help reveal, record and better understand the wildlife living alongside us.
Bringing Back the Birdwing 🦋

Together with Wildlife Queensland, our community discovered the story of the remarkable Richmond Birdwing Butterfly and planted its vital food vine to help create habitat for its return. A small action, multiplied across our backyards and green spaces, can become something much bigger.
Birding Forestdale with BirdLife Australia

What an incredible morning of looking up, listening closely and discovering just how much birdlife calls Forestdale home. In collaboration with BirdLife Australia, our community recorded an impressive 55 bird species in just three hours, with the observations added to the eBird database — turning a morning of community discovery into valuable citizen science.

Backyard Wildlife Talk + Tour

Our open garden tour invited residents beyond the front gate to discover how even one backyard can contribute to something much bigger. From native plants and mature trees to habitat, water and wildlife-friendly spaces, we explored the simple ways our own properties can connect with neighbouring backyards, parks and bushland — creating a living landscape across Forestdale.
Because wildlife doesn’t recognise property boundaries — and neither does nature.
Echidna Detectives with Dr Kate Dutton-Regester

Our community became echidna detectives for the day! Guided by echidna researcher Dr Kate Dutton-Regester, we discovered more about these remarkable local residents, the signs they leave behind and how citizen science can help researchers better understand where they live and move.
A wonderful reminder that sometimes protecting wildlife begins simply by knowing what to look for.
